The 5.374-litre 12 cylinder (90.0 x 70.4 mm) twin-turbocharged engine could produce 1100–1580 horsepower at 7,800 rpm in race trim. The 917/30 Can-Am variant was capable of a 0-100 km/h time of 1.9 seconds, and had a maximum measured top speed of 395 km/h.
A total of six chassis were built. These cars dominated Can-Am racing so easily that the series lost popularity in the United States.
